马蹄莲是非常经典的观花植物：最传统、最“婚礼感”的是洁白佛焰苞，而如今花市上彩色品种也同样热门，常见有黄、粉、紫、深红，甚至近黑色的佛焰苞。它真正的花其实是中间的肉穗花序，外面那片像花瓣的“马蹄形”部分是佛焰苞。叶子翠绿，有的品种还会带漂亮的斑点。既能做盆栽点亮家里，也是一流的切花材料；矮生、小花型品种尤其适合家庭养护。
